Atiku Center, SENSE Project Share Teaching, Learning Kits to 11 Adamawa LGs

The Atiku Center for Leadership, Development, and Entrepreneurship has recorded another milestone in the development of the education sector in Adamawa State.

Last week, USAID, through the Center, handed over 1,700 teaching materials and 100,000 learning materials to 11 local government education secretaries.

The beneficiaries are Song, Guyuk, Yola North, Ganye, and Numan Local Governments. Others are Michika, Toungo, Hong, Fufore, Shelleng, and Mubi.

The materials titled Rana (Hausa for the Sun) have been developed in line with best practices in terms of early grade reading for pupils in Primary 1, 2, and 3, in literacy and numeracy. The materials were written in the Hausa language to enable children to read and learn in the language they understand and speak best.

Rana materials are categorized into three which include Jagoran Malamai (Teachers' Guide), Littafin Karatun Dalibai (Pupils' Book), and Littafin Karatu da Lissafi a Bayyane (Read Aloud) which was developed to improve their vocabulary and critical thinking abilities.

At the handover, the Chief of Party and Administrator of Atiku Center, Dr. Audu Liman, said it was a delight for the American people to be handing over the teaching and learning materials to the people of Adamawa State. A lot of resources had been devoted by the USAID to see that the materials were developed and utilized.

Dr. Liman noted that the purpose of this flag-off event was to showcase that indeed AUN has procured the materials they proposed to and have handed them over to the government and people of Adamawa State.

"This is a very unique and historic day for us, and we are delighted to have partnered with Adamawa State, the Ministry of Education, and other education agencies like SUBEB."

Presenting the supplies to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, Dr. Grace Malgwi said that writing the materials in Hausa would give the children the basic foundation to higher grades in primary school, adding "the Rana approach is a complete package that bears the pupil in mind."

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Wilbina Jackson, who represented the governor praised the Atiku Center and USAID for all they are doing for education, especially basic education in Adamawa.

Since 2014, The Atiku Center has intervened in education around the North-East with the latest being the effort to strengthen education in the North-East which started in 2019 to run through 2021.
