President Dekle Lauds Feed-and-Read Cohort 2019

The 2019 cohort of the Feed & Read program is receiving a boost from the School of Arts & Sciences to facilitate more vulnerable and at-risk children from the community joining the program.

This comes on the heels of a renewed fundraising drive recently launched by the Atiku Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship & Development (ACLEAD).

President Dekle in a thank-you letter to the SAS faculty and staff members said their contribution will greatly affect the beneficiaries.

“Through the generous hearts of SAS, the next cohort of Feed & Read participants will receive one good meal per day, hygiene materials, and reading tutorials.”

More than ₦500,000 was pledged when the drive started in the school.

Other pledges also came from outside of the SAS. They include the Senior Director, Projects & Physical Planning, Karin Rheeder, who pledged 10 kg of rice every month; Friends of Nigeria in the USA, which donated one million Naira; AUN Finance Division employees, who pledge to contribute an unspecified sum; AVP of Security & Safety Operations, Dr. Lionel Rawlins; Hajia Turai Kadir of ACLEAD who pledged N50,000, and Dr. Audu Liman, the Administrator of Grants & Contracts and head of ACLEAD, who pledged N150,000.

Happy with the development, President Dekle, quoting Aristotle on education as a refuge, said, “Your support has provided a small refuge for these children. You have also helped the Atiku Center to remain at the forefront of development and community engagement.”

Interested donors can  send in contributions using the Guaranty Trust Bank account details as follows: AUN Naira Operating Account Number 0027121840.

However, President Dekle has advised American citizens who wish to take advantage of the tax exemption status of their donations, to approach her for help.

“I would be happy to walk you through how to do this, as I have myself donated money to AUN through the Foundation and taken advantage of the tax exemption and can explain how it works.”

Since 2015, the Feed & Read program has been providing literacy and nourishment for underserved teenage boys and girls who do not have the opportunity to enroll in formal schooling.
